Masaka priest Kalyesubula dies in accident

Rev Fr. Bonaventure Kalyesubula, a well-known priest in the Masaka Catholic Diocese, has tragically died in a motor vehicle accident. His car collided with a fuel truck at a popular entertainment spot, Labamba, in Bukomansimbi Town Council.

The head-on collision occurred on Thursday, June 18, at about 10:00 am. The priest was driving a Toyota Forester with the registration number UBC 118D to his residence at Kitasa Parish in Bukomansimbi.

The Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident, stating that Fr. Kalyesubula died instantly. He also mentioned that police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka Diocese issued a statement mourning the passing of Father Kalyesubula. The statement, dated June 18, was signed by Rev. Fr. Charles Jjuuko, the Chancellor of Masaka Diocese.

Father Kalyesubula was ordained as a priest in 1988 and is set to be buried at the Bukakala Minor Seminary cemetery on June 19, as stated by the Masaka Diocese. At the time of his death, Father Kalyesubula held the position of chairperson of the Masaka Diocese Building Committee.

Eyewitnesses told New Vision that Fr Kalyesubula had last been seen in Kiganganzi village in Bukomansimbi district, where he officiated at a mass for the late Josephine Ssentongo, who also died in a motor accident.
