Police in Kikuube district has detained a man in his 40s accused of killing his wife in a domestic fight.
The suspect has been identified as James Kyarimpa of Kanyegaramire village in Kaseeta parish in Kabwoya sub-county Kikuube district.
The suspect is alleged to have beat up and killed his 39-year-old wife, identified as Sylvia Kyasimire.
The incident occurred Saturday morning at around 3am.
The village chairperson of Kanyegaramire a sub-village of Nyairongo village, Anatoli Bagyenda, said that the suspect had a quarrel with the wife that resulted in a fight that left the woman dead.
He noted that during the fight the suspect hit the deceased on the head with a sharp object and killed her instantly.
Bagyenda noted that the couple have been in long-standing family domestic violence cases adding that the man has several times been fighting with the wife accusing her of returning home late and alcoholism.
He noted that the village council had for several times engaged the couple and reconciled them but their fight continued and ended up resulting in death.
Julius Hakiiza, Albertine police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest adding that the suspect is being detained at Kyarushesha police pending to be referred to Kikuube police station.
He said that police have started an investigation to ascertain the root cause of the murder.
