Uganda Police Force has deployed a total of 3,984 polling constables in the Albertine South (Greater Hoima and Greater Kibaale) districts.
The recruits were unveiled on Thursday after completing ten days of intensive training at Duhaga Secondary School in Hoima City, West Division.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Public Relations Officer, reported that the election constables who completed training on December 18 were recruited from Hoima, Kikuube, Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Kibaale districts.
He revealed that each polling station will be manned by two election constables in line with Electoral Commission guidelines.
He added that the constables will be deployed within their home villages to help maintain law and order during the electoral process.
The constables will serve for a period of three months.
He said constables will receive a stipend ranging from sh440,000 to sh490,000 and will be issued with a full police uniform and a baton for easy identification while on duty.
Gilbert Alinaitwe, one of the trained constables, said that he had been equipped with skills to keep order during the elections.
“We are thankful to the Uganda Police Force for giving us the opportunity to serve our country. We have been well trained, and we are ready for the task ahead,” he said.
