The mother of the late King Oyo of Tooro has urged people "fighting over the throne" to allow the family grieve and bury her son.
"Please, there will be time for all of that," said Best Kemigisa in a emotional statement, referring to the apparent flex over who should be the next monarch of Tooro.
Oyo died of cancer at the age of 34 two weeks ago (August 27). Ahead of his burial this Saturday, the kingdom has been thrown in disarray over who should succeed him.
On Wednesday, members of the 21-member Royal Succession Committee announced Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the next King of Tooro. This was in a statement read by Msgr Isaiah Mayombo Adyeeri, the vicar general of Fort Portal Diocese.
The announcement sparked mixed reactions.
Meanwhile, the princesses of Tooro, led by Elizabeth Bagaya, rejected the king-designate.
Her sister, Margaret Komubaizi, speaking on behalf of the princesses in a televised address, said: The Will which Oyo left said something else and what was read by the committee of 21 Babiito members did not consider that.
