Severino Okoya Kiberu, the father of the former Holy Spirit rebel leader, Alice Lakwena, is dead.

He was 99.

Kiberu succumbed to cardiac-related complications on Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu district.

Family members confirmed Kiberu’s death, noting that the body has been transported to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) army hospital in Gulu city.

The burial programme, family members added, will be released at a later stage.

However, some family members said that Kiberu will be buried at Bungatira where his late wife and daughter, Alice Auma Lakwena, were buried.

Kiberu’s daughter, Lakwena died in 2007 at a refugee camp in Kenya.

She led the Holy Spirit Movement guerrilla group that rebelled against President Yoweri Museveni in the infant days of his regime. When Museveni defeated her in 1987, she fled to Kenya.

Born in 1956, Alice Auma changed her name to Lakwena, noting that she had a message for the people of Acholi.
