Busoga's Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV has hailed the ties his kingdom has with Turkey and called for their strengthening.

The kyabazinga says the move will better and develop 'our societies'.

“Let us continue having further strengthening of our relationship for the betterment and development of our societies,” the Kyabazinga says.

The king made the remarks on Saturday as he hosted the Muslim Community for an Iftar dinner at the Civil Service College Uganda in Jinja city.

The dinner was organised by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East Africa Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga in partnership with the Turkish Embassy, through its Turkish Development Agency (TIKA) in Jinja.

Nadiope also thanked the Embassy of Turkiye, through TIKA for the support rendered to his subjects in Busoga, which includes building schools, and mosques and initiating other development projects geared at transforming the region and country.

He appreciated Kadaga for her unwavering contribution towards the development of Busoga and Uganda and for lobbying for the Iftar dinner plus Eid hampers.

Equipping technical college

Kadaga thanked the ambassador of Turkey to Uganda, Fatih Ak, for their support to Uganda, adding that TIKA has made an impact in technical schools and hospitals, among others.

“It is the first Mission in Uganda that has supported the Muslims throughout the Ramadan," she said.

“In particular, I want to thank you for providing equipment to Nawanyago Technical College, which enabled it to start after its construction by the Government, and also thank you for the construction of a laboratory at Kamuli Community College,” Kadaga said.

Co-operation is essential

Ak said: “Co-operation in development is an essential part of our multi-dimensional bilateral relations with Uganda and TIKA has accomplished 6-7 projects in Uganda since its inception".

Ak added that the world is faced with many challenges, such as terrorism, extremism, poverty, and inequality but the biggest challenge facing humanity in the world is intolerance and urged people to join hands to defeat intolerance in their societies.

Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje also commended the Embassy of Turkiye for the support to the Muslim communities in the country.

About the embattled land wrangle between the Jinja Muslim community and Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, Mufti Mubajje said authorities are working on the matter and asked Kadaga to also support in finding a solution for that issue.

Later, the Kyabazinga gifted the Ambassador of Turkiye in Uganda Fatih Ak with the emblem of Busoga, the co-ordinator of TIKA, a memento from Busoga Kingdom, and a map of Busoga to Mufti Mubajje.
