JINJA - The First Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Mohammed Ali Waiswa, has cautioned social media users to exercise decorum and be mindful of the calibre of people they attack in their pursuit of followers.
He made the remarks at the Busoga Kingdom headquarters, where he officiated as the kingdom, with support from telecom giant MTN Uganda, donated Eid al-Fitr food items to the Muslim community in Busoga on March 28, 2025.
Waiswa decried the deterioration of morals, even among senior leaders, noting that people are using social media to fight unjustified battles instead of exhibiting tolerance, maturity, and forgiveness, as demanded by Allah.
He called on the government to regulate the industry and sanction those misusing social media to restore sanity.
Waiswa also urged the public to stop spreading messages that do not add value to society.
He thanked His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV and the Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi, who, with support from MTN Uganda, donated Eid alms to vulnerable Muslims in Busoga.
He further commended MTN Uganda for standing with the Muslim community and lauded Busoga Kingdom’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Alhaji Osman Ahmed Noor, for his efforts in elevating the Kyabazingaship.
At the same function, Alhaji Osman, who also serves as the head of partnerships in the kingdom, delivered the Kyabazinga’s Eid al-Fitr message. He congratulated those who had successfully fasted during Ramadan and wished the Muslim Ummah a happy and blessed Eid.

Osman reiterated the kingdom’s gratitude to MTN Uganda and its CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, for supporting Muslims for over five years.
He assured the public that ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga’s activities and plans remain on course and will not be derailed by any negative forces. He prayed for Almighty Allah’s guidance in the affairs of the kingdom and Busoga.
MTN Uganda donated food items worth sh50 million to Busoga kingdom, fulfilling the Kyabazinga’s wish to support Muslim faithful in the region. The donation comprised eight tonnes of maize flour and nine tonnes of rice.
Additional contributions included sh5 million from StarTimes Uganda Limited, which was used to purchase five cows, each costing sh1 million, and distributed among Muslims.
MTN uganda’s regional commercial manager, Allan Njagala, handed over the food items to Osman, who in turn presented them to Sheikh Waiswa on behalf of the Kyabazinga.
Waiswa was accompanied by the Asst. Mufti in charge of the Busoga Muslim region, Dr Hussein Bowa, who later distributed the Eid alms to district kadhis for further allocation to the Muslim communities in their respective districts.
Njagala congratulated the Muslim community on successfully observing Ramadan and encouraged them to keep their faith and continue seeking Allah’s guidance at all times.
“We are happy as MTN to extend our hand of compassion to the Muslim community during this holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
Present at the function was the minister for Kyabazinga affairs, Yudaya Babirye, who briefed Muslim leaders on the king’s campaign to engage men and boys in ending the teenage pregnancy crisis in Busoga and Uganda.
She called on the faithful to support the initiative and work towards eradicating teenage pregnancies.
Also in attendance were the spokesperson and chief of protocol in the office of the prime minister of Busoga Kingdom, Andrew Ntange, Asst. Mufti for the Busoga region Sheikh Hussein Bowa, and kadhis from all 11 districts and the city in the Busoga sub-region.
