The senior probation and social welfare officer for Kumi district, Catherine Aboyo, has raised concern over limited funding, which she says is hampering child protection efforts.

Aboyo explained that due to financial constraints, her office is struggling to run key programmes such as sensitisation on children’s rights, support for children in alternative care, and interventions for children in conflict with the law.

She recommends that the gender ministry increase funding to at least shillings 12 billion, specifically earmarked for child protection programmes.

Meanwhile, Amos Oluka, the Senior Probation Officer for Soroti District, stressed the urgent need to safeguard children.

He warned that failure to protect children today could result in a future generation marked by violence, delinquency, and trauma caused by abuse and neglect.
