Police in Kole District have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of defiling a nine-year-old Primary Four pupil in Abibuti Village.
According to North Kyoga Region police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident allegedly occurred on October 8, 2026, at about 11:00am.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Ocen, allegedly approached the girl as she was returning home from her auntie’s residence and persuaded her to enter his house, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The girl reportedly informed her mother immediately after leaving the suspect’s residence, prompting the mother to report the matter to Akalo Town Council Police.
Police responded by arresting the suspect, who was subsequently charged with aggravated defilement and detained at Kole Central Police Station.
Police said detectives visited and documented the scene, while the suspect and the victim underwent medical examination.
Statements have also been recorded from relevant witnesses as investigations continue.
Okema condemned sexual violence against children and urged parents to take precautions to safeguard children, emphasising that protecting minors is a collective responsibility.
He also cautioned men and other members of the public against violating children’s rights through sexual abuse and exploitation.
Police said the case file would be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance upon completion of investigations, after which the suspect would be presented in court in accordance with the law.
