King Oyo to be buried on September 12

FORT PORTAL — Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the fallen king of Tooro Kingdom, will be buried on Saturday, September 12, Rev. Fr. Charles Oyo, the head of communications of the burial organising committee, has said.
While addressing the media on Wednesday (September 2), Fr Oyo said the body is expected to arrive at Karuzika royal palace on Friday this week, and that is when the counting of the nine days will start.
According to the priest, the king will be laid to rest on the same day he was coronated. King Oyo was coronated on September 12, 1995, and the day has been celebrated every year. This year, the Kingdom was planning to hold the 31st coronation anniversary.
"According to our tradition, we shall mourn for nine days, and that will start on Friday when the body arrives at Karuziika and on the 9th day, which will fall on September 12, we shall bury," the priest said.

"We have harmonised, and the body will be airlifted from Entebbe airport after President Yoweri Museveni has paid his tribute, then it will stop in Kyegegwa from where it will be transported to Fort Portal in Karuziika royal palace," the cleric said.
He said that the convoy will be moving slowly to allow public viewing of the casket from Kyegegwa through Kyenjojo, Kabarole up to Fort Portal.
Mary Kamuli Kuteesa, the state minister for culture, asked the people of Tooro to remain calm and maintain peace and unity.
"We have been in a harmonisation meeting with the members of the royal family to engage them on how to prepare for the send-off of our beloved king. I understand there is a lot of anxiety among our people, but let's maintain peace during this time," Kuteesa said.
