The Toro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, is in critical condition, the kingdom's Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, has said.

Sources close to the Kingdom revealed that Oyo was admitted over cancer in a US hospital a few weeks back.

In an official communication today (August 27), Akiiki said; "This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition. At this difficult and deeply concerning time, we humbly ask the people of Tooro, our friends and well-wishers in Uganda and across the world to keep His Majesty in their thoughts and prayers."

He added; "We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition. We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family."

Akiiki said the official channels of Tooro Kingdom will provide updates as and when appropriate. "For now, we ask that we stand together in prayer for His Majesty."

On August 3, the kingdom in a statement said King Oyo had gone abroad "for official engagements and to further his studies."

The statement followed reports circulating claiming that the King had been admitted over cancer.

Born on April 16, 1992, Oyo is the son of Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III and Omugo Best Kemigisa.  In 1995, Oyo ascended to the throne, becoming the 13th ruler of the Toro Kingdom at only three years of age.
