Police in West Nile have confirmed the arrest of a Uganda Prisons officer who had gone into hiding following the murder of his supervisors in Kiboga district last month.

West Nile regional Police spokesperson Josephine Angucia said Saturday that warder Moses Anguyo — the main suspect in the February 2026 triple murder —  was arrested by the security in Aru town in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo's Ituri Province.

Anguyo is suspected to have shot dead Kiboga Prison deputy officer in charge, Catherine Hope, third in command, Bright Akishuri, and Sarah Ayebare, the spouse of the prison's officer in charge.

This happened on February 23.

Angucia said the eventual arrest of Anguyo, who had a sh10 million bounty on his head, was a result of the joint efforts by Police and Prisons officers in Arua district and the headquarters.

They had already made three arrests: Anguyo's two brothers and his girlfriend. The trio are said to have provided vital leads to Anguyo's whereabouts.

For now, Anguyo remains detained by the authorities of Aru Territorial Headquarters, according to Angucia.

Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine said Anguyo went into hiding after allegedly pulling the trigger.

The motive of the tragic shootings was not immediately clear.

Prisons boss Dr Johnson Byabashaija had appealed to the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of Anguyo and subsequently announced a sh10 million reward to anyone who volunteered information about the suspect's whereabouts.
