Farmers should take advantage of the expo to get quality seeds, agro-chemicals

Following the release of the seasonal weather forecast for the March-April-May planting seasons, farmers should take advantage of this year’s Harvest Money Expo to access quality agro-inputs that they can use in their gardens.

According to the permanent secretary from the Ministry of Water and Environment, Alfred Okot Okidi, the country is expected to receive normal rains, which he said are suitable for the planting seasons. 

While releasing the seasonal weather forecast on Friday at the Uganda Media Centre, Okidi explained that the current rains are a signal of the onset of the seasonal rains, expected in early March, with the peak or intensified rains expected from mid-April to early May and then reduced in the month of June.

Now, for farmers to benefit from the seasonal forecast, several seed and agro-chemical companies are exhibiting a wide range of agro-inputs that farmers can choose and prepare for the planting season.

Fertilisers

Some of the fertilisers at the Harvest Money Expo include organic fertilisers that have been blended with minerals targeting both vegetable and cereal crop farmers. Examples of such fertilisers include Pronova Power Gro, being displayed at the Dutch village from Grain Pulse. The other product ideal for organic farming includes Korna kali from the same company.

Seed

Other companies that have lined up different kinds of seed include; Naseco seed that is showcasing short season hybrid maize. From Uganda Prisons, farmers should look out for improved soybean seeds and different maize varieties, among others.

Under vegetables, there are hybrid seeds for cabbage, watermelon, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, tomatoes from Syova Seeds.

Agro chemicals

Other agro-chemical products on the market include herbicides for weed control, fungicides to manage fungal diseases among plants, among others.
