Police in Kiboga are investigating an incident where a security guard shot dead his colleague while on duty at Brac Bank at Bamusuuta Kiboga Town council in Kiboga District.
Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Police region spokesperson, said the suspect, Moses Karuhanga, was currently on the run, but they were hunting for him.
“The territorial Police in Kiboga have registered a murder by shooting incident that happened on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at about 1:00 am. The deceased has been identified as Engoromoit, a 39-year-old security guard working with Ultimate Security Guarding Brac Bank at Bamusuuta Kiboga Town council in Kiboga District,” Kawala stated
She revealed that preliminary findings indicate that on Thursday, at about 1:00 am both the suspect and the deceased were on their guard duty at Brac Bank Kiboga branch.
“Both are security guards working with ultimate security. It is alleged that the two developed a misunderstanding, and Karuhanga allegedly shot Moses Engoromoit in the head, killing him instantly.
Before he fled, the accused reportedly informed their supervisor, who moved to the scene of crime and found Engoromoit's body lying in a pool of blood,” Kawala added.
She said the Police were informed about the incident.
“It has been established that the deceased was carrying a baton while the suspect was carrying a gun as guard weapons, and after the incident, the suspect abandoned the gun at the scene and fled,” Kawala stated.
She said efforts are ongoing to have the suspect arrested and brought to book, and investigations are still underway.
Crime report
According to the 2024 Annual Crime Report, Uganda recorded 1,339 murders by assault and 1,016 by mob action, even as overall crime declined by 4.1%.
In the last four years, murders through assault top the list, leading with 1,095 cases registered in 2021, 1,085 cases in 2022, 1,127 cases in 2023 and 1,339 cases in 2024, followed by murder by mob action with 759 cases registered in 2021, 953 cases in 2022, 1052 cases registered in 2023 and 1016 cases registered in 2024, among others.
