Two engineers from Kiboga district have been charged with conspiring to defraud the government of 19 million shillings meant for road works.
One of the accused is Ismail Mukiibi, a 52-year-old district engineer and resident of Luwunga in Kiboga town council.
The other is 38-year-old Moses Bwante, an assistant engineering officer and resident of Kyanga Cell, Kiboga town council.
They appeared before the Kiboga Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday (August 1).
In this case, the two men are accused of committing the crime between 2022 and 2023.
The alleged conspiracy revolves around funds for fuel meant for road maintenance and construction in Kiboga under the Uganda Road Fund.
State Attorney Stephen Ariong from Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is leading the prosecution team. They are accusing Mukiibi and Bwante, together with others still at large, of conspiracy to defraud the government of funds.
The accused were slapped with three conspiracy to defraud charges, all of which they denied.
On Friday, they were remanded to prison until August 14, when they are expected to return to court for mention of the case.
