KIBAALE - Kibaale Police in Kibaale district are holding 35-year-old Gerald Byabasaija, alias Osama, a casual labourer, accused of killing a colleague over a woman.
The deceased, David Kamuhanda, 50, was also a casual labourer, both employed by Tadeo Senjubu in Kajuma village, Matale subcounty.
It is alleged that the two men got into an altercation during a night out at Kabengeya trading centre, where they both expressed interest in the same unidentified woman.
According to Senjubu, the suspect later picked up a sharp stick at home, assaulted Kamuhanda, and then hacked him to death before dumping the body in a pit latrine at their employer’s residence.
Senjubu said the suspect confessed to the murder during police interrogation.
Local leaders, including subcounty district councillor Charles Asiimwe and village chairperson Pascal Babyehugya, have condemned the act.
By press time, the body had been retrieved from the latrine and taken to Kibaale Health Centre IV for post-mortem. Police had not yet commented on the incident.
