The RDC Kalaki, Chris Mike Okiria, is angry that youth in his region have abandoned food production for opium growing, which he says is destroying families and increasing theft in villages.
On Tuesday, September 22, he ordered security to crack down on farmers growing opium in villages, saying the vice is fueling criminality and school dropouts in the district.
Quoting intelligence reports, Okiria says intelligence reports have revealed huge illegal gardens of opium.
Calvin Anyuru, the OC Otuboi police station, asked the leaders to expose people in their communities who grow opium.
Moses Oriada, the LC V chairperson, encouraged the communities to cooperate with the police in curbing the vice.
