Kadaga wins Africa award for good governance

The 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, has received the African Award for Good Governance from the Heritage Times of London.

Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli Woman MP, received the award at a ceremony in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on Monday, April 14.

She later took to social media platform X and dedicated the award to her electorate, the Ugandan Association of Women Lawyers with whom she established the first legal aid service, and the MPs of the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Parliament.

Kadaga also dedicated the award to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, where she said she broke barriers in women’s representation in decision-making.

“Proud recipient of the African Good Governance award, for my work in women’s emancipation and Parliamentary stewardship, transparency, integrity and accountability,” she said.

She added that she was “humbled by the recognition accorded to me as recipient” of the award.

The 68-year-old seasoned politician is a woman of many firsts, including being the first female Speaker of Parliament in Uganda and being the first woman to establish a law firm in the country.
