The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, officially commissioned the sh76.5 billion Saka Bridge, a vital infrastructure project that connects the Busoga and Bukedi sub-regions.
During the commissioning ceremony, which also included the unveiling of 7.5 kilometres of upgraded roads in Pallisa District, Kadaga stressed the importance of utilising the new infrastructure to enhance household income within the communities.
The newly constructed bridge replaces a swamp crossing on the Kaliro-Pallisa Road, reestablishing the link between Kaliro district and Pallisa.

The project was funded by the Ugandan government and completed 11 months ahead of schedule.
Local leaders appealed for the fulfilment of presidential pledges, including upgrading Bumanya Health Centre IV to a hospital and constructing the Kaliro District Administration Block.
They called for electrification of remaining parishes, more graders for new town councils and compensation for cattle farmers.
Pallisa District LCV Chairperson Patrick Duchu expressed gratitude to the government for its support, which has transformed Pallisa town from a potholed and dusty area to one with first-class tarmac.
Duchu also said that as leaders, they are going to embark on sensitisation and mind change so that people can work tirelessly to eradicate poverty in their households.
The commissioning function was attended by the state minister for works Musa Echweru, Pallisa LCV Chairman Patrick Duchu, Kaliro LCV chairman Elijah Kagoda, other government officials and locals.
