India resumes visa services for Ugandans after Ebola-free declaration
The decision means Ugandans can once again apply for both e-Visas and regular visas to travel to India, ending a suspension imposed during Uganda’s Ebola outbreak.

India has resumed visa services for Ugandan nationals following Uganda’s declaration as Ebola-free, foreign affairs minister Adonia Ayebare has announced.
The decision means Ugandans can once again apply for both e-Visas and regular visas to travel to India, ending a suspension imposed during Uganda’s Ebola outbreak.
However, Indian authorities will maintain some public health measures for travellers arriving from Uganda, including self-declaration forms, thermal screening and health monitoring.
Ayebare announced the development on September 9, 2026, saying India had taken the decision following diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
“I am happy to announce that the friendly government of India has decided to resume all visa services, both e-Visa and Regular Visa, for the nationals of Uganda,” Ayebare said.
He thanked India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, for facilitating the resumption of the services.
Ayebare announced the development on September 9, 2026, saying India had taken the decision following diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
“I am happy to announce that the friendly government of India has decided to resume all visa services, both e-Visa and Regular Visa, for the nationals of Uganda,” Ayebare said.
He thanked India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, for facilitating the resumption of the services.
Ayebare said he was scheduled to meet Harish later in the day to formally thank the Indian Government for the decision.
India had suspended visa services for Ugandans amid concerns over the Ebola outbreak in Uganda.
The development comes shortly after the World Health Organisation declared Uganda Ebola-free on August 28, 2026, following the completion of the required 42-day period without a new case after the last patient was discharged.
The two countries have longstanding links, with India being a major destination for Ugandans seeking specialised medical care and an important trading and investment partner.
