Lands state minister Sam Mayanja has said he feels honoured to have been reappointed by President Yoweri Museveni to continue being part of his team as he steers the country through the middle-income status and beyond.

The United Nations announced last Wednesday (March 20) that Uganda had met the requirements to be categorised as a lower-middle-income country, following impressive improvements in the population’s health, education, and income levels.

“As the current head of the G77+China and the Non-Aligned Movement, President Museveni is giving guidance and leadership to 80% of the global population. So, being part of the team of this great international leader is a great honour,” the minister said on Sunday, March 24.

He made the remarks at the occasion of the charter celebration of the Lions Club of Kampala Central at the residence of Shem Bageine, the former minister of state for East African Affairs, in Bugolobi, Kampala.

“I, therefore, take this occasion to publicly thank His Excellency the President, who is the Ssabalwanyi (chief fighter) of Uganda, for giving me the rare privilege to serve my country under his tutorage,” Mayanja, a seasoned lawyer, said.

He is among those who were reappointed in a simultaneous mini-reshuffle of the Cabinet and army late last Thursday (March 21) by the President. He was reappointed alongside full lands minister Judith Nabakooba.

“I thank His Excellency the President for the trust and reappointment to continue serving as minister for lands. Our mission to secure land tenure for everyone is still ongoing until we achieve the Government's target of total economic transformation of all households,” she said on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday.
