Illegal drug trade to attract tough penalties

The Bill also bars the manufacturing, distribution and sale of medicines without a license. Individuals who engage in manufacturing of drugs without a license commit an offence and are liable to a fine not exceeding sh100m or imprisonment not exceeding five years or both. If it is an unlicensed company, it will be fined sh200m. 

Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the minister for health, tabled in Parliament on Monday. In case of a company, the Bill states that upon conviction, the company will pay a fine not exceeding sh60m.
