Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba says he is confident his assistants' team will do the job with the utmost skill and asked it to continue to assist the lower officers.

Byakagaba made the remarks during the pipping ceremony of 12 Police officers, who were promoted to the rank of assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) on December 5, 2024.

The officers were decorated amidst cheers and applause from their relatives and wives.
President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the commander-in-chief of the defence forces, on Monday, December 02, promoted five top Police officers to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).
The promotions were made in a bid to align the senior Police officers with their current offices, which they have now taken over substantively.
AIGP is the third highest rank in the Police Force. The highest rank is Inspector General of Police (IGP) followed by deputy IGP.
Those promoted and pipped today are: Lawrence Nuwabiine, the director of Traffic and Road Safety; Stephen Tanui, the director of Fire prevention and Rescue Services; Joseph Obwona, the director Interpol and international relations; James Apora, the director logistics and engineering as well as his deputy, Geoffrey Musana.
Those awarded the rank last month are director legal Charles Katalatambi, director counter terrorism David Wasswa and ICT director Flex Baryamusaki.

Human resource and development director Moses Kafeero, director welfare and sports Hadij Namutebi, director of operations Frank Mwesigwa and Ubaldo Bamunoba the director political commissariat were also decorated.
Before their elevation, the officers were all senior commissioners of Police and were serving in those offices in an acting capacity, said Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma during the weekly joint security briefing at the Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Monday.
The pipping ceremony was attended by Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba and his deputy James Ochaya.
David Wasswa on behalf of the decorated officers, pledged to work together and ensure that they achieve the objectives of the police in the country.
