"My brother was in a bad condition, and I took him to Kamwezi Health Centre IV, and when we reached there, there was no medical attention we received. Realising that he was bleeding profusely, the medics wrote a chit referring us to Kabale regional hospital. We travelled by ambulance and arrived at 8:00am. KABALE - The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, ordered the arrest of Nicholas Tumuheki, a nurse at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, for allegedly neglecting a patient.

Lady Justice Naluzze issued the directive during a spot check at the hospital in South  Western Uganda.

The IGG was at the start of the IGG’s tour, which commenced with a visit to her Kabale regional office.

This case involves a profusely bleeding patient who had been referred from Kamwezi Health Centre IV.

A statement from the Inspectorate of Government (IG) office, the nurse allegedly instructed the patient's aide to lay the patient on the floor, saying that the hospital had not been informed in advance to prepare a bed.

Further allegations, according to the IG office, are that the caregiver was sent by the suspect to purchase medicine from a nearby pharmacy after being told that the hospital didn't have the prescribed medicines.

Sadly, there was no doctor to help us, and my brother remained stuck in the ambulance, so we had to remove him ourselves from the ambulance.”

The caretaker further revealed that, “we took him inside, but there was no bed. We're asked to put him on the floor. We took like 30 minutes before we got assistance.”

The caretaker reported that the family spent sh150,000 to buy medicine for the patient.
“Even where we brought the medicine, they didn’t administer it to the patient,” the caretaker stated.

He said they were later told to pay sh120,000 to take the patient for a scan. By the time the IGG intervened, the patient had spent close to 9 hours without medical attention.
