I attempted to resign twice, says ex-minister Anite

“I moved on from politics five years ago. I’ve been doing business, and that’s public knowledge. For your information, I attempted to resign twice but was stopped,” she told one of her followers who had commented on her recent removal from Cabinet.

The immediate former investment and privatisation state minister Evelyn Anite, has revealed that she attempted to resign from her Cabinet position twice but was stopped.

She made the revelation on May 31, 2026, on X, formerly Twitter, while interacting with her followers on a wide range of issues.

I moved on from politics five years ago. I’ve been doing business, and that’s public knowledge. For your information, I attempted to resign twice but was stopped, she told one of her followers who had commented on her recent removal from Cabinet.

Asked what she planned to do after being dropped from Cabinet by President Yoweri Museveni, Anite said she would focus her energy on business.

What am I going to do? I will be making money and becoming a multi-billionaire without people saying our taxes.

She was replaced by Amina Mukalazi, the head of the State House Local Content Unit.

In July 2024, Anite dismissed online speculation over changes to her X bio, in which she removed her job title and the title "Honourable" following a Cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi district.

Anite, who had been speaking out against alleged corruption in government and had gone on leave, made the changes after the seven-day retreat, which was also attended by permanent secretaries and members of the ruling party’s Central Executive Committee.

During the retreat, which she also attended, New Vision Online learnt that ministers and permanent secretaries took the unprecedented step of holding candid discussions and taking turns critiquing each other's work.

The changes to her X bio sparked speculation that trouble could be looming. The former minister and MP also placed particular emphasis on her surname, ending it with a capital letter.

However, in a brief interview with New Vision on July 18, 2024, Anite dismissed the speculation, saying she had no particular reason for removing the titles.

She said people should not read too much into the changes.

I have no reason, she said when asked why she dropped the job title.

Asked what could be on the horizon, Anite, who does not mince her words, responded:Nothing.

Elaborates

In March last year, Anite told New Vision Online in an interview that people need to differentiate between a personal account and an official account.

Now my official account is there, and it’s on the page of the Ministry of Finance. Anything that is official must run there. There is my official bio data in the Ministry of Finance official count. My personal account is run on my personal mobile data.

She also said she received nothing from the government for managing her personal account and had not been directed by the government to open it.

I only thought that it is right that it has to be private and it has to be Anite; not honourable Anite because there are so many honourable. So, Anite is a brand, and I need to promote that brand. When I am moving around, I would like to be called Anite, and I chose this surname because it is what makes me stand out. And I had to stretch my name clearly, 'AnitE' because some people were also mixing it up.
