KASESE | ROAD CRUSH | BIIRA | KNOCKED DEAD
Little Linus Biira, 4, who was knocked dead by a speeding UPDF truck in Kasese municipality on Monday, April 17, was reportedly returning from school after being chased away for school fees.
She was in baby class at Blessed Orphanage, located in Nyamwamba, East Nyamwamba Division.
“She went to her mother in Mawa Market, but the mother, who didn’t readily have the money, told her to go home." "She was knocked as she almost reached home,” a source said on Tuesday.
Kasese municipal education officer Emmy Kayiri said he hadn’t yet known the circumstances under which the child had left the school, but said the private school was located in Nyamwamba East in Nyamwamba division.
School dismisses
However, one of the directors, Enoch Matembero, dismissed the reports, saying the school had chased away the child over shillings 50,000, in fees arrears on April 11, but he hadn’t returned to the school since then.

“We were also surprised when we got the sad news yesterday (April 17) that our child had been knocked dead,” Matembero said during Biira’s burial in Kirembo village, Kisinga sub-county, west of Kasese town.
How it happened
According to Kasese Central Division OC Traffic Commander Alex Amutuhaire, Biira, aged 7, died instantly when a speeding Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Land Cruiser, registration number H4DF 2172, veered off the road as the driver attempted to dodge the child, who was about to cross the road.
Amutuhaire said the 12.30 p.m. Monday tragedy occurred at Nyakasanga II Ward, Nyamwamba Division.
Amutuhaire said UPDF soldier, Private Fred Mawadri, attached to Rukoki Barracks of the Rwnzori Mountain Division, who was driving the truck, also died on the spot after the army vehicle rammed into a nearby building, killing the soldier, who was trapped on the steering wheel.
