HOIMA - Hoima district local government has embarked on the construction of a sh24 billion new administration block situated in Birungi cell in Kitoba town council.
Uthman Mubarak Mugisha, the Hoima LC5 Chairperson, said on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony that the construction work for the new administration block will be funded by the Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (DRDIP) phase 3, which is under the office of the Prime Minister.
He said so far, they have secured sh1 billion, which has since been secured from the Government to kick-start the construction work.
Mugisa said that the construction of the administration block will enhance effective service delivery to the residents and serve as a central hub for governance and administration.
He said the new location will provide the district with more space for future expansion since it has vast land.
“We have been able to put up such big projects to improve service delivery in the district. These include a state-of-the-art theatre at Kigorobya Health Centre IV, where people are now accessing services rather than going to the city. We will work on more roads in Kitoba town council and around the district to support our people to access services, “Mugisha said.
The Bugahya Member of Parliament, Pius Wakabi, stated that they will continue lobbying for increased financial support for local governments, the creation of additional administrative units, and other services from the central government.
The Hoima Chief Administrative Officer Emmanuel Ssempala urged the government and other development partners to financially support the construction project, adding that the district alone may not be able to meet the financial needs.
