Police in Hoima are holding the Hoima Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Christopher Aine, for alleged assault and malicious damage to a mobile phone.

His arrest followed a case which was filed by Henry Byabazaire, who is accusing Aine of assaulting him and destroying his phone.

Speaking to New Vision on the phone shortly after the arrest of Aine, Byabazaire said the deputy RDC assaulted him on June 9, 2026, as he was making a statement in the office of the officer in charge, Criminal Investigations Directorate (OC CID) at Hoima Police Station.

According to Byabazaire, he had been arrested on that day, along with his colleagues from Karubale village in Hoima's Buraru sub-county over a land wrangle.

"After our arrest, they took us to Hoima Police Station in Kitoba to make a statement, but as we signed our police bond, the deputy RDC entered the office of the OC-CID and started slapping me as he accused me of terrorising the community on their land. He grabbed my phone and hit it on the ground, yet it was a mere allegation against us," Byabazaire narrated.

While briefing the media on the arrest of Aine, Albertine South Police spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon (October 20).

"Following a complaint lodged by one Byabazaire, who alleged that he was assaulted by the Deputy RDC Hoima District, Aine, on June 9, 2026, at around 1930 hours at Hoima District, in the office of the OC-CID, the case was investigated, and the case file was submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.

The file was returned with guidance to have the suspect's statement recorded. Today, October 20, 2026, the suspect has appeared before the Regional CID Officer, Albertine South, for statement recording. After making his statement, he was detained at Hoima city central police station," Hakiza stated.

He added, "The case file, which includes charges of Assault and Malicious Damage to a Mobile Phone vide CRB 317/2026, will be resubmitted to the Resident State Attorney for further management.  We appeal to the complainant and the general public to remain calm as investigations continue."

Aine is the former head of security for former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi during the 2016 presidential campaigns, where Mbabazi was among the candidates who stood, but lost to President Yoweri Museveni.

In 2016, Aine was arrested and charged with assault, incitement of violence and obstruction of officers on lawful duties.

This was after he engaged in a scuffle with Edgar Nyabongo, the then Kiira Regional Police Commander in Jinja District.
