Hoima Archdeaconry created as Bunyoro Kitara Diocese expands
According to Ateirweho, St Peter's Cathedral, Duhaga, will continue to function as a deanery under the leadership and direction of the Cathedral Chapter, as mandated by the Constitution of the Church of Uganda.

The Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, Rt Rev. Jacob Ateirweho Amooti, has officially announced the creation of Hoima Archdeaconry, marking a significant milestone in the growth and expansion of the diocese.
He made the announcement at St Peter's Cathedral during a confirmation service on July 19, 2026.
The newly established Hoima Archdeaconry has been separated from St Peter's Cathedral Deanery and will operate independently, with its headquarters at St Stephen's Church of Uganda, Karongo.

New appointments and transfers
The bishop announced the following appointments and transfers, all of which will take effect on January 1, 2027:
The Very Rev. Canon Eric Twine Amooti will continue serving as the Dean of St Peter's Cathedral Deanery.
Rev. Joshua Muhanuzi, who has been serving as the Vicar of St Peter's Cathedral, has been promoted and appointed the first Archdeacon of Hoima Archdeaconry. He will also serve as the Vicar of St Stephen's Church, Karongo, carrying out both responsibilities.
Rev. Daniel Tumwesige, the Assistant Vicar of St Peter's Cathedral, has been promoted to the position of Vicar of St Peter's Cathedral.
Rev. Hillary Kansiime Ateenyi, who has been serving as the parish priest of Karongo Parish, has been transferred to St Peter's Cathedral as assistant vicar.

The Hoima Archdeaconry will comprise Karongo Parish, which will serve as the headquarters, alongside Bugambe Parish, Kiduuma Parish, Parajwoki Parish, Kitoba Parish, Buhamba Parish and Buseruka Parish.
The creation of Hoima Archdeaconry is expected to strengthen pastoral ministry, improve church administration, and enhance evangelism and service delivery within the diocese.
Science, technology and innovation minister Eng. Jonard Asiimwe attended the service and gave thanks to God for the abundant blessings bestowed upon him.
Asiimwe pledged to contribute sh15m towards the purchase of a new ministry van for Hoima Archdeaconry.
“We thank God for the new developments in the diocese, and we are ready to serve with the newly posted clergy,” Asiimwe said.
