Traffic Police in Gulu City have launched a crackdown on motorists for violating the one-way traffic routes designated within the central business district.
The Gulu City Council recently designated Queens Avenue, Labwor, Aliker, Awere and Olya streets as one–way traffic routes to mitigate congestion since the streets are narrow.
However, many motorists are on the spot for dishonouring the routes, prompting the Police to launch the crackdown on Tuesday where over 40 motorcycles were impounded.
Peter Patrick Lachero, the OC Traffic of Gulu city told Radio Rupiny that the violators are being issued 100,000 shillings’ express penalty payable in banks.

According to Lachero, the masses were sensitised about the routes but many motorists have remained adamant.
Radio Rupiny interviewed some motorists who claimed that they had not been sensitised about the one-way traffic routes.
