Greater Bushenyi graduates 3,038 police officers to monitor polls

BUSHENYI - A total of 3,038 Election Special Polling Constables (ESPCs) have successfully completed training across the Greater Bushenyi in preparation for the 2026 General Elections, slated for January 15, 2026.

The ESPCs who completed a 10-day intensive training programme were officially passed out on December 19 by different Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) in the five districts of Greater Bushenyi. 

The group, which includes 809 women, will be distributed as follows: Bushenyi (768), Mitooma (632), Rubirizi (444), Sheema (748), and Buhweju (446). 



Speaking after the pass-out ceremonies, Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa revealed that the ESPCs will work closely with regular police officers and other security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process.

According to the Electoral Commission and Uganda Police Force guidelines, each ESPC serving on a three-month contract will receive shs469,000 as a monthly allowance. for the duration of their deployment.

Godfrey Achiria, the greater Bushenyi regional police Commander, commended all stakeholders involved in the recruitment and training exercise, saying the successful completion reflects strong coordination between security agencies, district leadership, and the Electoral Commission.

The ESPCs are expected to be deployed countrywide to support the electoral process as Uganda heads into the Presidential, Parliamentary and local council elections on January 15, 2026.
