Disaster preparedness and refugees state minister Esther Anyakun has delivered shillings 20 million as condolences to the family that lost four children to lighting in Sheema district.
On January 14, 2024, the children from the same family in Kimondo II cell, Kitagata town council, were killed by lighting following a heavy downpour.
Speaking to the family members at their home in Kimondo II cell, Anyakun said as government, they were saddened by the catastrophe that had caused a big loss in the family.
Meanwhile, Anyakun challenged all stakeholders in the district to sensitise residents to plant many trees around their houses that, according to her, divert the movement of the lighting.
Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, the senior presidential advisor on manifesto implementation, advised the bereaved family to focus their attention on God.
Kamuntu further urged people to embrace the growing of food and cash crops like Bananas, Tea, and coffee that can provide food and generate income for the families.
Meanwhile, Benon Bintabara, the grandfather to the deceased, said though the family is still in grief because of the tragedy that befell them, they are grateful to the Government for the relief.
