The Ministry of Public Service is working on a policy which will see religious leaders facilitated with transport means by the government.

The development was revealed by Wilson Muruli Mukasa, the minister for public service.

Muruli who represented President Yoweri Museveni at the consecration of the assistant Mufti of Uganda for Bunyoro-Toro, Sheik Ghalib Hussein Talib at the Bwikya regional headquarters in Hoima City on November 17, 2023, said religious leaders play an important role of mobilising people, the very reason government supports them.

“The Ministry of Public Service has been directed to work out a formula of how religious heads can be assisted in that line of transport. All of them,” Muruli said.

He noted that the President directed the public service ministry to come up with a policy which will be cutting across religions, after which it will be presented to Cabinet for approval soon.

“They do a good job in the country. They are useful, they are relevant, they are groups,” Muruli said.

“The ministry is working out a formula which will be presented to Cabinet for approval as soon as possible to see how and at what level. The practice has been that the President offers transport to the people at the bishop level and we want to also see the sustainability of that,” he added.

President Museveni has always gifted religious and cultural leaders with vehicles at their enthronement and consecrations across the country.
