 CABINET RESHUFFLE

On Thursday (March 21), President Yoweri Museveni announced changes to his Cabinet, which saw Mary Goretti Kitutu — who is implicated in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal — dropped as Karamoja affairs minister and replaced by Peter Lokeris. Agnes Nandutu was also dropped from the "slightly amended" list as Karamoja state minister and she was replaced by Florence Nambozo Wamala.

Another notable change was in the defence and veterans affairs docket, where Vincent Ssempijja was dropped and as the line minister and replaced by Markson Jacob Oboth, who was previously the state minister for the same docket.

Balaam Barugahara of the newly launched Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) was appointed Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs.

Meanwhile, Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi (pictured below), who has been serving the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Cooperatives.

In making the reforms, President Museveni, who is the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), used the authority given to the President of Uganda by Articles: 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1) and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
