Govt appoints four members to Surveyors' Registration Board

KAMPALA - The Government has appointed four new members to the Surveyors' Registration Board, in a move aimed at strengthening the regulation of Uganda’s surveying profession.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, Justine Kasule Lumumba, during a press briefing at the Uganda Media Centre.
Lumumba was giving a brief on cabinet decisions taken at its eighth meeting on Monday (August 24).
The four members approved by Cabinet are: Dr Sophia Nagujja Mugumbu, Daniel Okwana, Patricia Alowo Namulembwa and Anthony Mark Kyalirizo.
The Surveyors' Registration Board is established under the Surveyors Registration Act, Cap. 330, and is responsible for the registration and regulation of surveyors in Uganda.
Lumumba said the surveying profession is central to land administration, physical development, infrastructure development, and the management of construction costs.
“A properly constituted and effective board is, therefore, important to maintaining professional standards and protecting the public interest,” Lumumba said.
The surveying profession plays a critical role in Uganda’s development, with surveyors providing services that support land ownership and transactions, establishment of property boundaries, physical planning, and infrastructure development.
Lumumba said the appointment of the four members is expected to strengthen professional oversight and help ensure that surveying services meet the required standards.
Fertilisers for farmers
Lumumba said the surveying profession is central to land administration, physical development, infrastructure development, and the management of construction costs.

The surveying profession plays a critical role in Uganda’s development, with surveyors providing services that support land ownership and transactions, establishment of property boundaries, physical planning, and infrastructure development.
Lumumba said the appointment of the four members is expected to strengthen professional oversight and help ensure that surveying services meet the required standards.
Fertilisers for farmers
Meanwhile, the cabinet also considered the procurement, supply, and distribution of fertilisers to farmers across the country as part of efforts to increase agricultural production and productivity.
Lumumba said the Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, will distribute fertilisers to farmers growing strategic crops, including beneficiaries under the Parish Development Model.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry will provide details on the targeted crops, beneficiary areas and distribution arrangements,” she said.
She noted that the fertiliser intervention is intended to boost agricultural productivity and support farmers to increase production, particularly within strategic crop value chains.
Lumumba said the ministry will communicate the detailed implementation arrangements to the public.
Lumumba said cabinet also approved preparations for Uganda to host the final statutory ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement under the country’s current chairmanship, scheduled for December 2 to 4, 2026.
