While witnessing the signing ceremony at the headquarters, the entity’s Town Clerk Festo Tandeka named the roads to be constructed as Nabweru Road, New Era Nabweru Katooke Link 2, New Era Nabweru Lugoba and Nabweru Kazo Central Link.

He said the contract period for the project is 18 months, adding: “The scope of work includes rehabilitation of utilities including water, electricity and communication lines, provision of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to workforces including management of associated issues such HIV/AIDs and gender issues.”

He added that others include installation of prefabricated concrete pipe culverts and service ducts, stone pitching in side drains, construction of raised footways and street lighting among others.

During the event, Under Secretary Ministry of Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs Monica Edemachu especially urged the local contractors to work closely with her ministry’s team to ensure they put all the necessary safeguard measures and ensure that implementation does not delay.

“We want to compare your work with that of other contractors who are foreign-based to see whether you can,” she said, adding that the precedence the local companies will set in the quality of their work will decide allocation of future government projects.

She also reminded the contractors that the contract is results-based and that if they don’t perform Nansana could lose marks.
