Residents of Nakisunga sub-county in Mukono district are living in fear following a brutal overnight attack by a group of machete-wielding assailants that left one person dead and two others seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as Brian Kasimagwa, a well-known gospel singer and member of Banda Christian Centre.

Among the injured are Nakisunga sub-county vice chairperson and Emmanuel Bbosa, both of whom sustained serious wounds from attacks that reportedly began at about 9pm on July 13, 2025.

Tension ran high as relatives, neighbours and followers of Banda Christian Centre rushed to Herona Hospital, where Kasimagwa had been admitted in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

“We are experiencing a rise in crimes such as burglaries, murders, and armed attacks on residents in the streets,” said one resident, urging police to increase night patrols to curb the growing insecurity.

Kasimagwa’s mother, Cissy Nabbaale, said her son had returned late from work that night and failed to respond to her calls. “I waited for him to come home, and when I called, someone else answered his phone, which raised suspicion. We later discovered he had been killed near his residence,” she said.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Emmanuel Bbosa recounted the attack: “The youth found me returning from Kisoga Town late at night. They hit me and took my phone. I’m in pain; my head has several wounds.”

Robert Ssekito, spokesperson for Herona Hospital, confirmed that Kasimagwa was brought to the facility at around 3:00am on July 14, 2025, in a critical condition but died shortly after arrival.

Local leaders blamed the rising crime rate on the influx of unemployed individuals into the area, some of whom have turned to criminal activities.

“We are in a lot of panic here. The crime situation is constantly increasing. We ask the security authorities to intervene because we are still losing so many people,” a leader said.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and said that investigations into the murder were underway. “The body is currently at Mulago Mortuary,” he added.

Police in Mukono visited the scene of the attack and later proceeded to Herona Hospital, from where they took the body to Mulago for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
