The Court of Appeal in Kampala has started a three-day criminal appeals session, during which a total of 30 cases are scheduled to be heard.
Judiciary in a statement said the session, which started today, September 22, 2025, is expected to run until Wednesday.
The panel presiding over the session comprises justices Oscar Kihika, John Mike Musisi and Cornelia Sabiiti Kakooza.
According to the cause list issued by court registrar Rukundo Allen Owembabazi, appeals of aggravated defilement form the largest category of the cases to be heard during the session, accounting for 15 of the 30 appeals.
These are followed by seven murder cases, five aggravated robbery cases, two rape cases, while theft has one appeal file.
"Three appellants are challenging life sentences, two in relation to aggravated defilement and one for murder," the statement says.
All appellants and their legal representatives will physically be present in court.
The session is part of the Court of Appeal’s commitment to enhancing access to justice and expediting the hearing of criminal appeals.
