WAKISO - The Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) has called upon Good Samaritans to support the organisation’s day-to-day activities of helping the needy.
The organisation’s chief executive officer, Jolly Kamugira Kaguhagire, made the call on Tuesday at UWESO Masulita Children’s Home in Wakiso district as Uganda’s Vice President Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo visited the promises.
Alupo’s visit aimed at assessing the condition and situation of children living in the home.

According to Kaguhangire, the closure of USAID programme, greatly affected the running of several UWESO initiatives with several projects under the organization (UWESO) being suspended due to inadequate funds, insisting that 100 staff have been laid off.
“At Masuliita, we currently have 118 children but have projects in various parts of the country where we run schools and vocational institutions and help HIV-positive children and mothers with positive children who are likely to suffer after USAID programme pulled out,” remarked Kaguhangire.

She appealed to Alupo to ensure the home is given priority in giving it support from the government, as well as well-wishers to come up and help the project.
“We have many Ugandans who are Good Samaritans, and can help these children because we pay school fees, medical bills and other expenses that need urgent support,” said Kaguhangire.
UWESO, a non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of vulnerable children and youth in Uganda was founded by the First Lady, and Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni in 1986.
