Elegance, celebration, music and fellowship marked the installation of Rotarian Andrew Kulubya as the new President of the Rotary Club of Kanyanya at a colourful black-tie ceremony presided over by Immediate Past District Governor D9213, Anne Nkutu.
The memorable evening also witnessed the installation of Rtr Julius Senoga as the Charter President of the newly formed Rotaract Club of Kanyanya, a sister youth club to RC Kanyanya.
Guests, resplendent in stylish black-tie attire in keeping with the event’s theme, enjoyed an evening of live band music, dance and fellowship. A lavish dinner, accompanied by an assortment of cocktails and refreshments, kept the celebrations going well into the early hours of Saturday morning.
The youthful Kulubya succeeds Rotarian Dan Mazinga, who used the occasion to reflect on a successful year of service.
Among the club’s notable achievements was the cleaning and opening of drainage channels in Kanyanya’s Kikuubo slum, helping to improve sanitation and reduce flooding in the area.
Under Mazinga’s leadership, the club also conducted a major health camp in Mpererwe, providing medical services to more than 1,000 residents. Beneficiaries received treatment and screening for various ailments, including eye conditions, malaria and prostate-related illnesses.
In another impactful project, the club empowered persons living with disabilities in Nagalama through skills training in liquid soap production and donated three wheelchairs to support their mobility and independence.
In her remarks, Anne Nkutu commended the Rotary Club of Kanyanya for its commitment to community service, successful implementation of projects and continued support to The Rotary Foundation.
Welcoming the incoming president, Nkutu highlighted Rotary’s enduring strength in what she described as “human capital risk management.”
“In Rotary, leaders serve for only one year and willingly leave the stage because we have a wealth of talent ready to take over,” she said. “We lead through influence, not authority. We achieve results by cultivating trust, earning respect, leading by example and creating opportunities for others to serve.”
The ceremony reached its climax with the cutting of a beautifully decorated installation cake, followed by spirited dancing that brought Rotarians, Rotaractors and guests onto the dance floor in celebration of a new chapter of service above self.
