Fresh details emerge as Police arrest woman linked to singer Matovu’s death

Fresh details have emerged about the death of Afrigo Band founder member 77-year-old Moses Matovu as police moved in to arrest a middle-aged woman identified as Rose Tumusiime, who was with the musician before his death.

Matovu was attacked at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala, and he later succumbed to his injuries at Kibuli Hospital.

According to an eyewitness, Matovu and the woman arrived at her home around 4:00am. The two were reportedly from an outing before they proceeded to the woman's house, which is a stone's throw away from Matovu's home in Kibuli.

According to neighbours, Matovu and Tumusiime were trailed by the yet-to-be-identified suspect to the woman's rented house.

"When the suspect arrived at the house, he first knocked at the door, but the two refused to open. He then lay in ambush and waited for the two to get out. As Matovu and the woman headed to his car, a Land Rover UAR 982H, the assailant attacked them, first hitting the woman before attacking Matovu," an eyewitness narrated.

Matovu was reportedly hit after he demanded to know why the young man had attacked Tumusiime.

After Matovu was hit and he fell on the ground, the assailant reportedly fled the scene.

A boda boda rider, with the help of a resident, rushed Matovu to Kibuli Hospital for medical attention, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala on Thursday morning (September 24) said their task teams were already at the scene conducting investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend the suspected assailant,” she said.
