KIKKUUBE | POLICE | SUSPECTS | CRIME

Kikuube district police, in collaboration with their colleagues in Masindi, have made progress in cracking the mystery behind the murder of an LC1 chairperson.

The development follows the arrest of four suspects believed to be connected to the murder of Julius Irumba, 43, who was the Musaijamukuru village LC1 chairperson in the Buhimba sub-county.

The suspects include the brother of the deceased and a resident of Bweyale in Kiryandongo district, Richard Nyaika, 38; Hoima city, Bucunga village resident Stephen Aliganyira, 32; Hoima city, Kiryatete village resident Vincent Wabyona, 27; and Angella Katusabe.

A police source, who preferred anonymity, said the suspects were picked from various places in the districts of Kiryandongo, Masindi, Hoima, and Kikuube.

How the murder was executed

The suspects are alleged to have participated in the brutal murder of Irumba, who was killed on October 21, 2022, in a sugarcane plantation at Kasongoire village in Masindi.

It is alleged that before the fateful day, unknown people hired Irumba to deliver aggregate stones and sand to a yet-to-be-identified client in Kasongoire.

However, as they moved to deliver the material, the deceased, who was with his turn boy, Joseph Gubaza, was intercepted by a group of people who blocked the road.

The unknown person emerged from the plantation with a machete, knife, and hammer and pounced on Irumba, slitting his neck. They later dumped his body in his truck with the registration number UBE 514W.

The assistant also clobbered the turn boy and left him in a coma. Gubaza is still admitted at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

Suspects' luck runs out

The police source said that the suspects' luck ran out after they approached a doctor (names withheld) and requested he kill Gubaza by lethal injection.

The source said the doctor pretended to have accepted the deal and informed security about the deal. Security laid a trap that led to the arrest of the suspects.

Albertine region Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said following Irumba's murder, Flying Squad Unit operatives were dispatched to track down the suspects, which led to the arrest of the four. He added that the suspects are locked up at Masindi Central Police Station pending interrogations and that Police are hunting their accomplices.
