Former Butaleja District LC5 Chairperson Michael Higenyi Bore has been remanded to Butaleja Government Prison until September 1, 2026, after being charged before the Chief Magistrate's Court with obtaining money by false pretenses relating to a job-selling scheme during his tenure.
Facing two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, he was dragged to court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Butaleja Chief Magistrate's Court heard that between 2021 and January 2026, Higenyi allegedly took millions of shillings from multiple job applicants under false promises of securing them employment within the Butaleja District Local Government.
The Chief Magistrate stationed at the Butaleja Chief Magistrate's Court, Her Worship Joy Nambozo, remanded him to Butaleja Government Prison until September 1, 2026, pending further court proceedings.
It is alleged that, while serving as Chairperson LCV between 2021 and January 2026, Higenyi, during recruitment, obtained money from several applicants promising to give them jobs under Butaleja district local government, which he never fulfilled.
Arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on allegations of selling district jobs during his tenure, Higenyi was picked up on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the LCV Chairperson’s office.
Reports indicate he was initially detained at the Butaleja Central Police Station before proceeding through local judicial channels.
Current LC5 Chairperson Elvis Weere suspended the district's recruitment exercise due to deep-seated concerns over job-selling and interference involving former office networks.
The district faces intense oversight regarding corruption and delayed recruitment processes, drawing direct attention from national anti-corruption bodies and the Ministry of Local Government.
Anti-riot police picked up Higenyi at the current Butaleja district LC5 Chairperson's office, where he had gone to demand sh5m in unpaid dues.
