“Whose gun, was it? What is the number of that gun? Who signed for it from the armory?” he asked.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has called for swift investigations into the murder of the chief of Buganda Kingdom’s Ndiga (sheep) clan who was gunned down by the yet-to-be-established assailants riding on a motorcycle.

Daniel Bbosa was on Sunday, February 25, killed by gunmen who shot at him while he was driving his vehicle registration number UAH 637X in Kikandwa zone, Lungujja Parish, Rubaga Division in Kampala, while heading home. Bbosa was a businessman dealing in electrical equipment.

FDC spokesperson John Kikonyogo while addressing the media at Najjanankumbi today, Monday, February 26, asked the Police to quickly establish whose gun was used to commit such a heinous crime after it was allegedly discovered by the Police at the scene of the crime.

“Among all other unresolved murders caused by gun violence in the country, this should be the first one to be investigated thoroughly and swiftly because the exhibits used to commit the crime were all recovered from the scene,” Kikonyogo said.

“Whose gun, was it? What is the number of that gun? Who signed for it from the armory?” he asked.

“The Police had never told us who shot at works minister Gen. Katumba Wamala, who shot the sheikhs, who shot dead Joan Kagezi, who shot dead the Deputy Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, and they should do it swiftly like they investigated iron sheets (mabaati) case where they arrested ministers,” he added.

“We do not want to hear that Bbosa was killed by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. Now we should be able to ask this surviving suspect to tell us whether he is ADF or not. This should be another phase of investigating high-profile murders in this country,” he said.

Kikonyogo tasked security organs to protect one of the suspects who survived lynching by a mob, to give more details on who might have sent them to commit murder.

“We are happy that the public has started confronting assailants when they lynched one of the suspects. Had it not been for their involvement, probably we would never have recovered the gun and the motorcycle used. All these should help the Police to trail the motive of the murder,” he said.

“Over the years, it has been complicated to trail gunmen riding on motorcycles after shooting people in the city due to faulty CCTV cameras but we are grateful that the public took the initiative to respond against the thugs,” Kikonyogo added.

In 2019, Parliament approved a government request to borrow $104m from Standard Chartered Bank to finance the National CCTV Network Expansion Project and the installation of CCTV cameras in urban centres to address gun violence in the country.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire revealed that such recovered exhibits from the scene shall be scrutinised to help in the ongoing crime that has left many questions unanswered.

Lukwago blasted

In a separate development, Kikonyogo lashed out at the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago who was voted by the Katonga FDC members as the party interim president.

“Lukwago calling us imposters at Najjanankumbi is shameful because Lukwago knows nothing when it comes to fighting for FDC which he joined recently. He is a wild joke,” Kikonyogo added.

“What does Lukwago know about FDC? Let Lukwago form his party and we see how he runs it,” he said.

“Whether I am happy or not, the issue should be about the party, not individuals. Now, if they had FDC in their own hands, why would they want to form a new party if FDC is their party?

If they think that they are in charge, let them nominate a candidate to compete for Member of Parliament in Dokolo during this by-election and see whether the Electoral Commission will accept their papers,” he added.
