The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has assured Ugandans that the construction of the Kampala Flyover project Lot 1 will be completed in December.
Lot 1 covers the section from Queensway to Entebbe Road/ Shoprite junction. The section also covers Nsambya Road, Ggaba Road up to Nsambya Hospital Junction and Mukwano Road, including the Kibuli junction.
Lot 2 spans from where Lot 1 ends along Mukwano Road up to Access Road, part of Yusuf Lule Road to Garden City roundabout, and part of Jinja Road up to Wampewo roundabout and connecting to the oncoming Kampala-Jinja Expressway.
The project faced a number of challenges, which included delays in utilities relocation, the COVID-19 outbreak that forced the project to close and delayed mobilisation of piling rig equipment from Japan due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The main objective of the Kampala Flyover project is to improve traffic flow within the Greater Kampala metropolitan area by decongesting the central business district.
The project is expected to be a solution to the unending traffic jam and flooding around the Clock Tower.
Here is a selection of pictures showing the progress of the sprawling project works that include flyover bridges, underpasses and pedestrian bridges among other things, road upgrading and improvement of junctions to ease travel within the city.
