Renowned medic Dr Noame Amuron has been installed as the new President of Soroti Lions Club.
Amuron took office on June 24 at the Club’s residential home on Serere Road in Soroti city amidst excitement.
Amuron, who works at Kumi Orthopedic Hospital and is a senior lecturer at Soroti University, takes over from Moses Elijah Otim.
Along with a nine-member executive committee, Amuron will serve the 2023/2024 term.
In her acceptance speech, Amuron pledged to ‘work collaboratively with the team so as to achieve the club’s goals and international goals as well.
In a bid to akin the Lions Club international year’s theme of Together we can, Amuron told the members that her term of office is themed as: Peace and Service.
“Our goal will be to endeavour to care for the poor and less privileged people in our societies and beyond,” she said.
The new Club President also listed the major service areas being tackling diabetes, vision, childhood cancers, hunger and the environment.
“I am glad because all these service areas fall under my line of work,” Amuron said.
The thrilled Amuron also took time off to acknowledge members for granting her the opportunity to serve at the Club’s highest position.
“I’m incredibly honoured to be the new president of Soroti Lions Club, which I treasure so passionately. Above all, I want to appreciate my predecessors Mr. Otim and Dr. John Ekure for initiating me into the Lions club and mentoring me through the ranks,” Amuron lauded.
Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, Venie Tinkumanya, who presided over Amuron’s installation appealed to the new President to preserve the reputation of Soroti Lions Club and work to lift it to greater heights.
To do that, he urged her to work in harmony with her committee members and stick to their action plan and strategy to achieve set goals.
Amuron’s team includes first vice-president Samuel Olato, second vice-president Dr Daniel Okali, third vice-president Samuel Otati and Dr Ninsiima Muhairwe.
To witness the installation of the new leaders, Soroti Lions Club was joined by the neighbouring Clubs such as Kumi, Mbale, Soroti and Gulu.
Soroti Lions Club was founded in 1978, becoming the third oldest in Uganda’s history after the Lions Club of Kampala City and Lions Club of Kampala Central.
