EASTER CELEBRATIONS

KAMPALA - The Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere has asked believers to emulate the example set by Jesus Christ and urged Christians to continue behaving well as has been the norm during the 40 days of the Lent period.

Archbishop Ssemogerere led Easter mass at Rubaga Cathedral assisted by former Papal Nuncio to Belgium, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, cathedral administrator Fr Achilles Mayanja, new pastoral coordinator Fr Dr Ambronse Bwangatto from St Mbaaga Seminary Ggaba, Chancellor Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, and others.

The day was graced by state minister for higher education John Muyingo, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Wakiso district chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Lubaga mayor Zacchy Mawula Mberaze, Honorary Consul of Eswatini Quillino Bamwine, area MP Aloysius Mukasa, Papal Knights Dr Kasozi Mulindwa and Anthony Matega, former Buganda Katikkiro Joseph Mulyanyamuli Ssemwogerere, a number of guests from the USA and several Christians.

While preaching in the cathedral that was full to capacity, Archbishop Ssemogerere urged the congregation against killings and said that it was a pity for a youth to get a gun and shoot his grandfather.

He congratulated Ugandans upon reaching Easter Sunday and asked them to continue as they were in the Lent season.

Ssemogerere further urged the faithful to reflect and draw inspiration from the example of the risen Christ, to align their behaviour with his beliefs.

He also expressed worry that false statements attributed to him circulate on social media and leave him puzzled.

Minister Muyingo said the government he serves is committed to fighting poverty, but stressed that everyone has a role to play in this effort.

He encouraged the congregation to take advantage of the various programs established by the government to address poverty.

The prelate emphasised that corruption and other vices are not only contrary to the teachings of Christ but also hinder spiritual growth and impede community development.

He went on to address the issue of corruption, which he believes is pervasive throughout society. "We can use the resurrection of Jesus to resist corruption, theft, and others."
Muyingo warned Ugandans to drive responsibly saying “On Saturday I was coming from Nakasongola, I saw several accidents, but all came because of bad driving.”

Former Katikkiro Joseph Mulyanyamuli who delivered Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s remarks, called upon Ugandans to continue joining hands in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“The campaign started with 10 districts suffering, but today, only three districts remain. Let's continue to fight.”

Kyagulanyi called on Ugandans to renew their faith and forgive each other in the spirit of Archbishop Ssemogerere’s Easter message.

He used the same occasion to console the family of musician Joseph Mayanja aka Chameleone over the loss of his brother Humphrey Mayanja who passed away on Saturday.
