End-user consumers are set to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for electricity in the period between July and September.
This follows the announcement of an increase in the consumer tariffs for the utility by the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) in a notice published in the papers on Wednesday, July 03.
Under the new tariffs announced by ERA chief executive officer, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, domestic consumers will pay sh779 for every unit of electricity consumed between July and September.
This will be an increase of sh23.2 from the sh756.2 that was charged between April and June this year.
However, the first 15 units will be charged a lifeline tariff of sh250 per unit to cushion low-earning Ugandans whose consumption does not exceed 100 units in the preceding six months.
In the new quarter, commercial consumers will average sh562.1, an increase of sh15.7 from the sh546.4 per unit that was charged in the previous quarter.
In the same vein, medium-scale manufacturers will pay sh363.8, an increase of sh8.7 from the sh355.1 for every unit consumed.
Similarly, their counterparts in the service industry will be charged sh423.9, an increase from sh412.8 per unit charged in the previous quarter.
Large industrial manufacturers’ tariff has seen their tariff increased to sh308.1, an increase from sh300.4 charged in the previous period.
On the other hand, large-scale consumers in the services industry, like hoteliers, are set to be charged an average of sh357 per unit, an increase from sh348.7 paid in the last quarter.
On the other hand, the extra-large industrialists like steel and cement manufacturing firms will be charged an average of sh207.7, an increase from sh203.6 charged in the previous quarter.
