The Tuesday accident comes in the wake of a similar accident on Friday last week, involving a bus and a train along Namumira–Bukasa Village, Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga sub-county, along the Katosi Road in Mukono District.

A female passenger travelling in the bus was killed when the train hit the bus at a railway crossing along the Katosi road. The bus was transporting students of Mwebaze High School Kakiri, in Wakiso district, to Jinja District for an educational trip.

Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said the fatal accident occurred at approximately 6:45 am and it involved a train that was ferrying passengers to Kampala and a bus that had been hired to transport the students.

“One female passenger died at the scene, while several students sustained injuries. Police officers, working alongside other emergency responders, evacuated the injured to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for medical treatment,” Kawala said.

She said police had secured the scene and commenced investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.
