Long-serving Democratic Party (DP) member and former National Resistance Council (NRC) legislator Ali Sserunjogi was on Sunday (August 23) laid to rest at his ancestral home in Nakwero, Gazaya, Wakiso district.
Sserunjogi died on the night of Saturday, August 22, at Kyadondo Medical Centre, a private hospital, after battling illness for years. He was 91-years-old.
His death has drawn tributes from political colleagues who remembered him for his commitment to the DP, truth and justice.
“As the DP Party, we have lost one of our historical members, who sacrificed his personal funds to promote activities of the party across the country. Sserunjogi was a principled man, and he never crossed to any other political party despite facing political challenges,” said Kennedy Mutenyo, the head of the party's electoral commission.
Mutenyo said the party was praying for the family, especially during the period of immense grief.

Kawempe North legislator Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola said the deceased was more than a statesman and a visionary leader.
“The deceased was my former boss at the Democratic Party. I will forever cherish the wisdom he shared, trust and the exemplary leadership he showed me during my time working together,” Nalukoola said.
